There are many uses for sugar, as we all know – it is present in every kitchen in the world, it sweetens children’s lemonades and adult’s coffees, and it adds a delicious touch of flavor to dishes and pastries. What you probably didn’t know is that sugar can be useful for a myriad of household tasks. Today we bring you a list of uses for sugar that can be considered life hacks as well.

1. How to keep flowers fresh?
Everyone loves to have fresh-cut flowers at home – it brings a beautiful pop of color to any room, as it makes it smell fresh and a bit like spring. However, fresh-cut flowers don’t last that long, but fortunately, we have a home hack for you.
By combining three teaspoons of sugar, which will have the function to nourish the flowers, with two tablespoons of vinegar, which helps establish proper pH levels. By dissolving this mix in a quart of lukewarm water, you have the perfect potion to keep your flowers fresh for longer.
2. How to clean your coffee grinder
The question is different, but the answer remains the same – sugar. Coffee grinders will easily get dirty and smelly if you use them often, and it’s only natural. But you can make them self-clean by using sugar, and all you have to do is grind ¼ cup of sugar using the appliance.
The smell will be reduced immensely, and the excess oils will be eliminated. Then you can toast with freshly ground coffee that tastes new.
3. Use it to trap Wasps
This is probably one of the most unusual uses of sugar, but it works – you can use it as a wasp trap. It can be really annoying to be dining on your porch and to be attacked by a swarm of wasps, and it is especially bad if you are allergic to this insect. But you can make a trap with sugar, water, and a plastic bottle, and they will fall for it.
4. Use it as a home remedy for insect bites
Being bitten by an insect is really awful – you get a red spot that itches, and if you scratch it too hard it can turn into a tiny wound and even leave a mark. There is a natural way to eliminate the irritation, though.
All you need to do is to apply a paste made of equal parts water and sugar to the insect bite, and then let it sit for about 20 minutes.
5. Treat your burnt tongue
Everyone has experienced that awful feeling of biting into something really hot and burning their tongue as a result.
But there is an easy way to ease that discomfort. The sweetness of sugar has the power of dulling the pain, so you can make it better simply by sucking on a sugar cube, or placing a little bit of sugar on your mouth. It is temporary, but it is a relief.
6. Use sugar as a roach antidote
Roaches have a reputation as the creatures that will survive a nuclear apocalypse, and that just adds to the creepy feeling they pass on. They are dirty, they like trash, and they find comfort living behind your refrigerator, where it’s warm. Gross, right?
Luckily for you, we have a solution to help you get rid of roaches. Take a few plastic bottle caps and fill them with equal parts baking soda and sugar.
Then, proceed to place these tiny and sweet roach traps around the house. It is not the fastest way to get rid of this plague, but it is easy and effective.
7. Say goodbye to grass stains
There are a million ways one can get a grass stain on their clothing, so they are pretty easy to get, but pretty hard to get rid of. Again, sugar can be a great ally. For this miraculous mix, you will need a one-half cup of sugar and another half cup of warm water.
This will form a paste that you will then proceed to apply to the stained area. Let it sit for one hour, more or less, and then wash the garment as you would normally do. The enzymes contained in sugar will help break down the stains, leaving your clothes looking as good as new.
8. Preserve your food longer
And to conclude this amazing list of home hacks, we’ll talk about preservation. If you are keeping food on your fridge in a hermetic storage container, but it still gets moldy and expires too soon, you can add a few sugar cubes to prevent this from happening.
The sugar cubes will absorb the excess moisture that causes the mold, keeping your food good for consumption for longer periods of time.
